This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Environmental Planner to support Puget Sound area projects from either our Federal Way or Seattle, WA offices. Be involved in projects with our Environmental Planning Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

This Environmental Planner position will work on a variety of infrastructure and development projects to ensure compliance with environmental processes and regulations, obtain permits and minimize environmental impacts. Tasks will include code research and interpretation, site and impact assessment, preparation of SEPA/NEPA documentation, support public involvement efforts, and assist preparation of local, state, and federal permit applications. This position will: generate accurate and concise documentation; coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team to integrate environmental considerations and other technical information to help solve project challenges; work with other technical staff and project managers to complete environmental field work and environmental and permitting documentation as assigned.

Your Impact

  • Conduct online research and code analysis, site visits, and occasional field work supporting the environmental planning and natural resources team.
  • Assist with the preparation of NEPA and SEPA documentation such as NEPA Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, SEPA checklists, and SEPA Environmental Impact Statements.
  • Assist with the preparation of federal, state, local permit applications.
  • Participate in agency coordination during permitting process.
  • Conduct environmental investigations, inspections and studies to identify or verify environmental conditions and prepare accurate and concise environmental technical reports that summarize the field/work site notes, research findings, impact assessment, and conclusions.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, demographics, patterns and trends, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Prepare data and visualizations, such as tables and charts, and work with others to develop graphics to illustrate the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
  • Help develop strategic planning and permitting execution strategies for clients on a variety of projects.
  • Assist with business development for environmental planning services.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • GIS mapping and data analysis a plus.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in the public or private sector (or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to research and prepare reports on environmental disciplines, regulations, and policies (NEPA/SEPA and ESA).
  • Experience interpreting federal, state, and local land use and environmental permitting code regulations and processes.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and work collaboratively with co-workers, clients, regulatory agency staff and the public.
  • Strong organization skills, including the ability to deliver work products for multiple projects on time.
  • Critical thinker and problem-solver with skills to reach conclusions from technical reports, testing results, data collation, and help identify the most effective manner to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
